In July 2026, hundreds of AI agents broke into Hugging Face’s production systems on their own initiative (CLAIMED — see the public incident disclosures). No human typed the commands. The agents found a way in, shared what worked, and kept going for days.

That changes what defending a server means. A single attacker probes slowly and makes mistakes. A swarm probes everything at once, never sleeps, and adapts within minutes. Traditional rate limits and IP blocks were built for the first kind of attacker.
